Joey Recker was raised In Southwest Georgia and lives in Plains, GA. At 9 years old he would sneak into the unlocked church a few miles from his home to play Gospel music and Billy Joel on the church piano. His mother forbid him to go to the church alone, but he continued until he was caught by the church pianist who offered to give him piano lessons. Nothing could stop Joey from singing and playing! He performed in high school and college show choirs and jazz bands until joining the military in 1985. Joey started tuning and repairing pianos in 2004. As a musician, he takes pride in not only making your instrument sound good, but making it feel and play like it should. He continued to play in local bands, like “Dixie Rhythm” , ”Drivin’ Country” and Slaughter Creek while serving his country. In 2015, Joey retired from service with almost 30 years later at the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
After retirement, Joey decided to re-dedicate himself to his music and started playing local bars and restaurants like ”Booger Bottom” at Lake Blackshear. When Joey is home he still plays local gigs with Crag “Shug” Shugart. Joey & Shug are local favorites and always pack the house at restaurants, bars and private parties.
In 2017, Joey was “discovered” in a South Georgia Bar playing and singing for local music lovers and has been on tour the with Confederate Railroad since January 2017.
